Alpine's 2020 Jeep Gladiator Switchback Pays Homage to Classic Alpine Stereos
Alpine Electronics of America,
Inc. showed a 2020 Jeep® Gladiator “Switchback” demo car
at the 2020 International CES which is open now through Jan. 10, 2020, at the
Las Vegas Convention Center.
“We designed a demo vehicle to reflect the exclusive systems
that Alpine developed for Jeep® with a nod to our design identity
heritage,” said Mike Anderson, Vice President
and General Manager, Brand Business Unit, Alpine Electronics of America, Inc.
“Jeepers are unique in that they often have a bit of the outdoors in the
interior of their vehicles. We wanted to offer a system that provides unending
entertainment – in any weather condition.”
Following Alpine’s recent move to
their new headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan, the Brand Business Unit,
originally located in Torrance, California, engaged Alpine’s OEM Unit to
collaborate on the build and promote an increasing synergy within company
operations. Elements of the build were utilized from products designed by the
OEM unit.
The intention of the build is to
deliver an exceptional interior experience that can extend to the exterior of
the vehicle, for continued entertainment inside or outside of the Jeep®,
no matter the weather conditions and the X409-WRA-JL delivers.
The X409-WRA-JL is a direct-fit
dash solution for the new 2018 – Up Jeep® Wrangler and
2020 Jeep® Gladiator. The vehicle-specific dash allows
for a factory fit and finish with integrated control keys to retain radio and
HVAC controls. The factory rear-view camera is also retained with an option to
add three additional cameras with the optional KCX-C250MC Multi-Camera Switcher
(sold separately).
The large, 9-inch screen is
resistant to weather (rated IP53) and various outdoor elements like sand and
dirt. The high-visibility screen can adjust to high or low-light driving
conditions for cleaner, brighter images even with the top off.
The Jeep® -inspired
solution has built-in Off-Road Mode with off-road navigation, vehicle
information and a camera with rear-guideline display. A Points of Interest
(POIs) database has recreational areas, FunTrek trailheads and U.S. Campsites.
For all local commutes, the X409-WRA-JL also has built-in navigation.
Other entertainment sources
include Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, and Bluetooth®
wireless technology with audio streaming. The system comes with built-in HD
Radio® and is SiriusXM-Ready® (tuner and subscription sold separately).
Sound System
Switchback is loaded with Alpine’s
PSS-23WRA Sound System Solution for the new 2018 – Up Jeep® Wrangler
and 2020 Jeep® Gladiator. The 300-watt sound system is designed for
excellent sound performance with the top on or off. The included PWE-S8 Powered
Subwoofer is installed under the passenger seat to maximize bass extension
throughout the Jeep® and deliver a front and center sound
stage for optimized performance.
New for 2020 is the SPV-65-JLT
Rear Soundbar Upgrade Kit for the new 2018 – Up Jeep® Wrangler and
2020 Jeep® Gladiator. The kit is designed to replace the factory
3-inch and 4-inch drivers, with two 6.5-inch component speakers and 1-inch
Teteron Dome Tweeter. The kit is weather-resistant (IP55) and boasts 90W
RMS/225W Peak while providing a premium look to the factory sound system.
The tailgate is designed to look
like an early Alpine stereo, with a large functional volume knob and six
classic “Alpine green” buttons on the faceplate to control the automation. The
bed houses a motorized assembly with 40 Bluetooth®
speakers that articulate for optimal sound positioning. Three 12-inch R-Series
subwoofers are also installed in the bed for bass extension and increased
volume. LED lights are placed around the speaker installation for added
aesthetics.
Additional collaborators include
Smittybilt, Pro Comp, Rubicon Express, and G2 Axle and Gear.
