The NVE-M300 uses Alpine's OnPoint™ Advanced GPS Positioning. This means that your vehicle stays accurately positioned on the map even in areas where it's difficult to receive GPS reception, such as in a tunnel or around tall buildings. OnPoint simultaneously uses three technologies - satellite-linked positioning data, gyro sensor technology (to determine the vehicle's direction) and accelerometer technology (to gauge the vehicle's speed) - resulting in continuous coverage of the location of your vehicle.
A straightforward menu system makes operation a breeze. Large, intuitive graphics help you quickly make selections via touch screen and advance each menu with the touch of your finger. When typing a place or location via the alphabetical keyboard display, the system narrows down the next selection of letters conveniently for you and automatically displays a short list of possible results saving you the hassle of inputting the entire name. Then it's as simple as hitting "Go" to calculate your route and get to your destination.
Alpine offers multiple ways to "Go to" your destinations. You can choose from inputting the address by city or state, scrolling through your history of places you've recently been, finding places nearby from a comprehensive list of local places, or bringing up a saved address from your address book.
The NVE-M300 has pre-loaded maps of the U.S. (including Alaska and Hawaii), Canada, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Looking for a restaurant, hotel, or movie theater? Select from over 6 million Points of Interest (POIs), aka places that are either near you, near your destination, along your route, or near a city center. There are 37 Place categories to choose from including ATMs, Banks, Gas Stations, Grocery Stores, Hotels, Parking Lots, Restaurants, and more.
Making multiple stops along your trip? It's easy to add each stop as a waypoint, and optimize the order of your waypoints to create an efficient route.
Wherever you go, you can always find your way back home quickly. Save your home address and set it as "Home" so it's always a touch away on your screen.
You can always change your method of arriving at your destination by checking/unchecking items such as Avoid Freeways and Toll Toads or via the Quickest Route versus the Shortest.
Choose from regular map view which can be set to either North Up view or Heading-up view where the current direction is always pointing to the top of the display. The NVE-M300 also provides an alternate 3D View, displaying the streets that lie ahead in a 3-dimensional map. Additionally, switch from Map mode to Arrow mode to view your upcoming turns.
On screen functions such as zooming in and out of the map give you more control of the area you want displayed. Handy route information such as an estimated time of arrival and number of miles remaining until you reach your destination are also available for view.
With a touch of your fingertip, you can pick a spot anywhere directly on the map and either save this location to your address book, set it as a waypoint, or even find nearby places to that location.
Click on the "exits" icon to view up to three of the next upcoming exits and places (POIs) that are near each exit. If you're on a road trip, this will help you find nearby gas stations, food, ATMs, etc., that are along your route.
There are eight place icons you can choose to display or not display on the map. For example, if you only want to see gas stations along the way, simply select the gas station icon from the setup menu. It's up to you to select the types of place icons you prefer to show on your map, so you can easily find these places, even when you are driving in an unfamiliar area.
Go beyond visual map guidance. Turn-by-turnvoice guidance can aid you on your trip. With guidance prompts turned on, street names are announced to help direct you along the way. It's your choice, you can turn the voice guidance on/off or adjust the volume to your preference.
The NVE-M300 speaks three different languages, choose from English, Spanish, or French. Guidance prompts (excluding actual street names which are always read in English) and the menu will display in the preferred language you've selected under setup.
Get guidance and still let the music play. When you're in navigation mode, let the music play and bring up your audio source without jumping out of navigation mode. The current audio source will be overlaid on top of your map screen allowing you to change radio stations or skip songs on your iPod for a seamless music and navigation experience.
The NVE-M300 shows extra details like the average speed and driving time onto your Alpine monitor. You can check on GPS status right from your unit, so you know exactly how many satellites are active and the strength of your GPS coverage based upon your location.
Customize your display for maximum readability. Choose from eight color schemes for your map, four menu colors and select a specific icon to represent your vehicle on the map. Select the place icons you want to show on your map based on what is most helpful for you.
