Largest Audio-Video-Navigation System Available from Alpine Electronics

Back January 10, 2012

The company offers the largest in-dash system for the aftermarket, with installation kits available for a number of popular vehicles

Torrance, Calif. (Jan. 10, 2012) – Alpine Electronics of America, Inc. is expanding its audio-video-navigation (AVN) system lineup with the introduction of the largest AVN system for the automobile aftermarket. The system will debut at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Jan. 10 -13, 2012 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The INE-Z928HD AVN system boasts an 8-inch WVGA screen, although its chassis fits into a standard 2-DIN dash opening. To accommodate this large screen in the dash, Alpine is also introducing a line of Perfect Factory Integration Technology (F.I.T.) dash kits specifically for the INE-Z928HD. The INE-Z928HD, along with the Perfect F.I.T. concept, received a 2012 CES Innovations Design and Engineering Award in the In-Vehicle Audio Video category. Rounding out Alpine’s new AVN lineup is the INE-S920HD 6.1-inch AVN system.

“Alpine is breaking new ground with the INE-Z928HD eight-inch AVN system,” said Steve Crawford, vice president and general manager, aftermarket business unit, Alpine Electronics of America, Inc. “When used with a matching Perfect F.I.T. dash kit, drivers will get the most innovative AVN system and largest screen on the market.”

Audio Features

The INE-Z928HD and INE-S920HD offer full control over audio sources such as:

  • HD Radio™ Technology: Both models feature a built-in HD Radio receiver for crystal clear digital sound. New and exclusive to Alpine is Smart Reception Management for HD Radio, which includes the Digital MC setting. This setting allows for hybrid digital/analog listening on the main HD Radio channel, along with digital signal on the HD Radio multicast channel. This avoids back and forth bouncing between the main HD Radio channel and the multicast channel. Alpine’s MediaXpander™ technology also provides enhanced sound quality to HD Radio channels by adding back missing harmonics in compressed media.
  • Pandora® internet radio: The INE-Z928HD and INE-S920HD can control Pandora from Android™, BlackBerry® and iPhone® smartphones. Users can create new Pandora stations, rate songs with the thumbs up or down rating system, and bookmark songs for later purchase from the touchscreens of these two AVN systems.
  • SiriusXM satellite radio: Both models are compatible with SiriusXM’s vast programming, using the SXV200 Vehicle Connect Tuner (tuner sold separately, XM subscription required).
  • iPod and iPhone: Both models are “Made for iPod and iPhone” compatible.

Artist name, song name and album art can be displayed on the INE-Z928HD or INE-S920HD’s screens if this information is available from the audio source. Advanced Passenger Control Mode is also available on both models, allowing passengers to stream audio from any smartphone for playback though the vehicle’s sound system.

Video and Navigation Features

The INE-Z928HD and INE-S920HD have full VGA high-resolution screens for crisp, detailed picture quality. The INE-Z928HD features a motorized screen which slides down to reveal a DVD slot. 2012 marks the debut of a new 3D navigation platform for Alpine’s AVN systems. The 3D view depicts major landmarks, buildings and terrain details. Lane guidance with text-to speech announcements, and a highway services list which shows the services available at each exit (gas, food, ATMs, etc.) help drivers make quick decisions during their routes. Another new navigation feature is the freeform search function. This allows users to type in the first few letters of the desired destination using the formal name (ex: Alpine) or a category (ex: electronics company), and all relevant search results will be delivered.

Bluetooth® Wireless Technology Features

Both AVN systems have advanced Bluetooth® wireless technology. Ease-of use features include secure simple pairing (SSP); phone battery, cellular signal level and received message icons; as well as call waiting. Sound quality features include digital sound processor (DSP) expansion for better streaming quality; MediaXpander technology for enhanced phone call sound quality; and a microphone that can be separately mounted for custom placement in the vehicle.

Customizable Setting and Sound Features

The new “Favorites” screen allows users to customize the screen with up to eight of their most-used settings. The user’s profile can be designed using audio (radio station direct shortcuts), navigation (favorite places direct search, nearest Point of Interest [POI] search), or phone settings (favorite person direct call). The user’s profile is assigned via his or her smartphone. Each time the person enters in the vehicle, the Alpine system will recognize the phone profile (via Bluetooth® wireless technology) and automatically set up the user’s system preferences.

The INE-Z928HD also offers vehicle-specific sound field settings. It comes pre-loaded with data about speaker locations and car seat material (leather, plush, etc.) for the vehicles in the 2012 Perfect F.I.T. dash kit program. The user just chooses his or her vehicle from the list, and the INE-Z928HD automatically tunes itself to deliver the best sound for that vehicle’s interior. Sound field settings for other vehicles that are not pre-loaded into the INE-Z928HD’s database can easily be set-up through the supplied instructions.

Perfect F.I.T. Dash Kits

Perfect F.I.T. dash kits allow the INE-Z928HD to fit seamlessly into the vehicle’s dash. Ten new kits, representing popular U.S. vehicles, will be available. Each kit is designed to cosmetically match the shape, color and texture of the vehicle’s interior. The Perfect F.I.T. kits come with all necessary accessories for the plug-and-play installation of the INE-Z928HD, including an Alpine/vehicle-specific harness, antenna adapter, Alpine-specific steering wheel interface, and BUS adapter (if necessary).

Alpine’s AVN system and Perfect F.I.T. lineup includes:
