The Blackbird Portable Navigation System receives signals from Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites. A powerful computer then analyzes this data to pinpoint precisely the vehicle's location... The navigation system's internal hard disc drive contains an immense database of maps, plus millions of points of special interest (POI). 2. Can I play movies with my navigation system? The Blackbird portable navigation system does not playback any type of video file as it is intended to be used by the driver for turn-by-turn driving directions. 3. Can I play or run other software programs on my Blackbird? The Blackbird only runs software for which it is designed and cannot run other software programs. 4. Can I store other data on my Blackbird so that I am using the Blackbird as a portable storage device? Blackbird's built-in hard disc drive is dedicated for navigation data only. However, an SD or MMC card inserted in the Blackbird can be accessed when it is connected to a PC via USB cable. 5. Is the navigation system available in any other language(s)? Blackbird is currently available only in US English language. 6. Occasionally, I see white or discolored dots on the screen. Is something wrong with my navigation system? During the manufacturing process, it is not uncommon for one or more pixles to be fixed in an unchanging state. The result is a fixed pixel that appears as an extremely tiny dark or bright discolored spot... 7. My navigation system talks to me. Does this mean I have a voice-activated navigation system? Though the Blackbird guides you to your destination using voice guidance prompts, it does not have a voice-activated or speech-recognition feature. 8. How do I hide or display map icons? Blackbird's Display Setup menu allows you to show, hide, or select specific icons to be displayed on the map. These include restaurants, gas stations, ATMs, banks, grocery stores, hotels, and parking lots. 9. Where can I find updates for my Blackbird? System software updates are available for download on the Alpine website. System software updates are typically free*. This is an application update only, which includes various function and performance updates... 10. What is the price of an update or replacement software? Software updates are typically free and can be downloaded from the Alpine website. Database updates require purchase. 11. If I install a software update, will I lose any of my personal information? Personal information is saved securely on the Blackbird and will not be lost during a software update. If you decide to return your Blackbird for service, it is not guaranteed that your personal information will be restored on the unit. 12. If I'm not happy with the latest download software version, can I reinstall my previous version? The Blackbird portable navigation system is not capable of back-upgrading versions. You cannot reinstall previous version software on Blackbird. 13. How can I tell which navigation system software version I am currently using? System software version is displayed in the Information menu. By clicking 'System Information' under the Information menu, information about the system will be displayed. 14. Are there any accessory parts available for my Blackbird PMD-B100? Please check back with us at a later date. As accessory parts are introduced into the marketplace, Alpine will post them at this site. 15. Where can I obtain accessory parts for my Blackbird PMD-B100? When they are introduced, Alpine will make them available to you through your local Alpine retailer. 16. Which replacement parts are available for the Blackbird PMD-B100? You can obtain any of the replacement parts from one of our two U.S. Parts Distributors, see contact info here. 18. Can I use a different mapping database in my navigation system? (Like PC software or other Alpine DVD software?) Blackbird's map database is optimized for performance and will not run any other PC mapping software or Alpine DVD-ROM map discs. 19. What map coverage does my navigation system provide? Maps of the entire USA, including Hawaii and Alaska, and Canada are preloaded into Blackbird. Blackbird utilizes NAVTEQ' map data from Q2-2005. 20. Can my navigation system provide coverage for Alaska or Hawaii? Yes, Blackbird does contain coverage for both Alaska and Hawaii. 21. Can my navigation system provide coverage for Mexico or Canada? Blackbird contains map coverage for Canada. Map coverage for Mexico is not currently available. 22. When using my navigation system, why aren't all roads named? Some roads in the database show up as 'UNNAMED ROAD' if it a street sign is incorrect or missing at the time it was verified by NAVTEQ'. 23. What is the fastest, easiest way to find an address? Blackbird's 'Easy Street' input allows you to simply type in the street base name and address number for a quick and easy way to get to your destination. 24. How do I delete addresses? Addresses and Previous destinations can be easily deleted from the Blackbird by selecting the delete function in the Edit Menu. 25. When will the next database update be available? Database updates are available annually. Please register your product and you will be notified of a product update via newsletter when a software update is released. If your are uncertain whether you have received a notification, you may call Alpine direct. 26. Are replacements or update DVDs available at my dealership or are they purchased elsewhere? Replacement DVD updates will be available from you authorized Alpine Blackbird dealer. 27. If I find an error in the database, how do I report it? You can report mapping and POI database errors to NAVTEQ' at NAVTEQ 's website: http://www.navteq.com. 28. If I have a problem with my navigation system, where should I have it repaired? Contact your authorized Alpine Blackbird dealer, or Alpine at 1-888-NAV-HELP for information on where to take your Blackbird Portable Navigation system for repair. 29. What is warranty period for my Blackbird PMD-B100? The warranty period is one year from the original consumer date of purchase. Proof of Purchase receipt is required to validate warranty coverage. 30. Which geographical region is covered by the Blackbird PMD-B100 warranty? Only North America - includes Alaska, Hawaii, and Canada. 31. What is covered under the Blackbird PMD-B100 warranty? The warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship (parts and labor) of the product. 32. How can I obtain service for my Blackbird PMD-B100? You will first need to qualify the type of service which is required. (I.e. Warranty Exchange or Warranty Repair) 33. Do I need to obtain authorization to return my Blackbird PMD-B100 for repair whether it is an In Warranty or Non Warranty issue? Yes, Alpine will provide you with a Pre-arranged Service Request (PSR) tracking number and a UPS prepaid shipping label. 34. Can I obtain a Warranty Exchange for my Blackbird PDM-B100 within the warranty period? Yes, however Alpine will only offer this option within the first 60 days of ownership? 35. What type of product will I receive as a Warranty Exchange for my Blackbird PDM-B100? Alpine retains the exclusive right to either replace the unit with a "reconditioned" unit or new unit. 36. How do I obtain Warranty repair for my Blackbird PMD-B100? Alpine will provide you with a Product Service Request and a prepaid UPS shipping label via your email address... 37. What other services are available for my Blackbird PMD-B100? Yes, we offer an out-of warranty service with rates varying, depending upon the extensiveness of the repair.
